Upload Best Practices

File preparation, naming conventions, quality recommendations, file size optimization.

Upload Best Practices

Follow these recommendations for the best experience:

File Preparation

Before Upload:

  • Ensure good audio quality (clear speech, minimal background noise)
  • For video, ensure good lighting and stable camera
  • Remove unnecessary silence at the beginning/end
  • Check file integrity (play the file to verify it's not corrupted)

File Naming:

  • Use descriptive names: Team Meeting - Q4 Planning - 2024-01-15.mp4
  • Include date, topic, or meeting type in the filename
  • Avoid generic names like recording1.mp4

Naming Conventions

Recommended naming patterns:

  • Date First: 2024-01-15 - Team Standup.mp4
  • Project First: Project Alpha - Client Call - 2024-01-15.mp4
  • Meeting Type: Sales Call - Acme Corp - 2024-01-15.mp4
  • Team Name: Engineering - Sprint Planning - 2024-01-15.mp4

Tip: Consistent naming makes it easier to find recordings later, especially when searching.

Quality Recommendations

Audio Quality:

  • Use a good microphone when recording
  • Minimize background noise
  • Ensure speakers are clearly audible
  • Higher quality audio = better transcription accuracy

Video Quality:

  • Minimum 720p resolution recommended
  • Stable camera (use a tripod if possible)
  • Good lighting for better visibility
  • Clear audio is more important than perfect video

File Size Optimization

To reduce file size without significant quality loss:

For Video:

  • Use H.264 codec (most compatible)
  • Reduce resolution if 4K isn't necessary (1080p is usually sufficient)
  • Lower frame rate for non-action content (24-30fps)
  • Use appropriate bitrate (5-10 Mbps for 1080p)

For Audio:

  • MP3 at 128-192 kbps is usually sufficient
  • M4A provides good compression
  • WAV is uncompressed (largest files, highest quality)

Note: Balance file size with quality based on your needs. Smaller files upload and process faster.
